This commemorative block of four 25,000-Afghani postage stamps was issued by Afghan Post in 2002 (1380 SH) to memorialize the destruction of the historic Bamiyan Buddha statues. Bearing the poignant theme “History is mourning for the destruction of the Bamiyan Buddha Statue,” the issue reflects the profound cultural and historical significance of the monuments and the loss of an important part of Afghanistan’s ancient heritage. The four-stamp block serves as a powerful philatelic remembrance of the Bamiyan Buddhas and their place in Afghan history.
